Fallas

The Falla del Calp Vell Committee erects big statues made of cardboard, wood and other materials in the streets (fallas), which depict famous people and scenes from daily life with ironic captions.

These Fallas are burnt at 24.00h. on March the 19th, day of San José, to celebrate the beginning of spring.

It has been celebrated since 1983.

Date: from 16th to 19th March 2010
Events: "Plantà", erection of the Fallas - "Despertà", awakening with a row of fire cracks and traditional music in the morning – Sardines and sangria – Giant paella – Walk around the streets with music – Offering of flowers – Holy Mass in honour of San José - "Mascletà" on the 19th at midday, long row of firecrackers - "Cremà", burning of the Falla – Open-air ball.
