Yesterday, the Beach Management Committee met, bringing together technical and political representatives responsible for managing Calp's coastline and the companies that hold concessions for services on Calp's beaches (sunbed and parasol rentals, lifeguarding, water sports facilities, cleaning, restrooms, etc.).
The purpose of this meeting was to analyze and assess the condition of the beaches during the summer season and to discuss needs and improvements for the upcoming season. Among the topics discussed was the analysis of the document compiling the complaints and suggestions received regarding beach management in 2025.
Throughout the bathing season, 135 complaints or suggestions were received. Of these, 54 concerned the operation of the foot showers, 23 the presence of seagrass (Posidonia oceanica), 12 issues with the restrooms, 10 smoke-free beaches, 9 beach cleanliness, 4 the placement of umbrellas outside of permitted hours, 3 boats on the beach, 3 the placement of sunbeds and umbrellas, 3 boats on the beach, 2 requests for the installation of children's play equipment, 2 complaints about the occupation of the beach area designated for people with reduced mobility, 1 request to create designated dog areas, and 1 request regarding water fountains on the promenade.
The meeting addressed the two main critical issues identified: the operation of the foot showers and the presence of seagrass. In the first section, the possibility of creating two new pumping stations was discussed, and it was reported that the Regional Ministry has already been asked to transfer the management of this service.
Regarding the complaints related to the remains of Posidonia oceanica seagrass on the municipality's beaches, these are directly related to the implementation of Decree 64/2022 of the Regional Government for the conservation of seagrass meadows. Therefore, it was agreed that the beach cleaning service should not delay the removal of Posidonia seagrass remains on La Fossa beach (the only beach where it can be removed during the bathing season) and that information campaigns should be carried out explaining the environmental value of Posidonia.
Regarding the objectives for the 2026 season, it was proposed to continue working on the water supply system project for the footbaths and to carry out an information campaign about the benefits of Posidonia seagrass remains.
As an Improvement Plan for the year 2026, the acquisition of a modular booth to provide the service at the assisted bathing point of the Fossa beach is proposed, as well as the acquisition of new pergolas for the assisted bathing points of the Arenal-Bol and Fossa beaches.
