The Calp Town Council, the Fishermen's Association, and Aguas de Calpe have signed a collaboration agreement to recognize and strengthen the marine waste removal efforts that fishing professionals have been carrying out for years as part of their daily work. The agreement allows for the structuring of the service, improved management, and financial support to ensure its continuity.

The accumulation of plastics in the sea poses a threat to the marine ecosystem, affecting biodiversity and fishing activity. Thanks to this agreement, the removal of this waste is optimized before it breaks down into microplastics, contributing to the conservation of species and the marine environment.

The fishermen of the Calp Fishermen's Association will continue to play a key role, locating, collecting, and removing waste during their workdays, as they routinely do. They will also be responsible for delivering the waste to authorized waste management companies and raising awareness among other fishermen and the public about the importance of protecting the sea.

Aguas de Calpe will contribute €8,000 to the Fishermen's Association during 2026 for seabed cleaning and waste collection. The agreement represents institutional recognition and an improvement to the work that has been contributing for years to keeping Calpe's coastline cleaner and healthier.

Those present at the signing of the agreement included the Mayor, Ana Sala; the President of the Fishermen's Association, Paco Catalá; the Councilor for Fisheries, Mariola Mulet; and the Councilor for Integrated Water Cycle Management, Ximo Perles.
