Last week, representatives from the Calp Town Hall traveled to Madrid for a working meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), with the aim of directly addressing the future of the municipality's coastline. Those participating in the meeting included the Deputy Director General for Coastal Protection, Fernando Pérez Burgos, and the Head of the Alicante Coastal Demarcation, Rosa de los Ríos Jimeno, along with the Mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, the Councillor for the Environment, Pere Moll, and municipal technical staff.

One of the key issues discussed was the regeneration of Arenal-Bol beach, whose last comprehensive restoration took place thirty years ago. The City Council emphasized the need to promote lasting and sustainable solutions, based on technical studies of marine currents and designed with the utmost respect for the Posidonia seagrass meadows. The municipality's aim is to prioritize interventions that mimic the natural processes of the coastline and provide stability in the medium and long term.

The project to improve the Fossa seafront promenade, currently in the design phase, was also analyzed. This project is being developed following criteria of universal accessibility, landscape integration, and avoiding any impact on the public maritime-terrestrial domain. The City Council emphasized the importance of balancing coastal protection with the quality of the urban space enjoyed by residents and visitors.

During the meeting, the legal status of the La Manzanera Social Club and its compliance with current regulations were also addressed. The City Council expressed its willingness to rigorously study all possible alternatives, always prioritizing the public interest and ensuring the safety of users and the surrounding environment.

With this meeting, the governing team reaffirms its commitment to the defense and responsible planning of Calp's coastline, working in coordination with other administrations to ensure that future actions on beaches and coastal areas are carried out with criteria of environmental sustainability and legal certainty.

The Mayor of Calp, Ana Sala, emphasized that “we are working closely and in coordination with higher levels of government to guarantee that every action on our coastline is responsible, sustainable, and designed to improve Calp.”

For his part, the Councilor for the Environment, Pere Moll, highlighted that “our commitment is clear: to advance solutions that protect the environment and strengthen our beaches without generating unnecessary impacts, opting for interventions that respect and improve our natural environment.”
