The Calp Town Council has begun installing smart irrigation systems throughout the municipality. This initiative is part of the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, framed within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) funded by the European Union through Next Generation EU funds.

The project involves installing 20 valves at the irrigation outlets of gardens located on Avenida de los Ejércitos Españoles and Avenida de Europa, as well as incorporating a control center equipped with a weather station. Thanks to this infrastructure, it will be possible to remotely manage irrigation in different green areas of the city, using data collected by sensors that measure parameters such as soil temperature and moisture, solar radiation, wind speed, ambient temperature, and rainfall.

The main objective is to optimize the use of material and human resources in the operation and maintenance of the irrigation system, as well as reduce water consumption and associated costs, since irrigation will be based on the specific needs of the green spaces. Likewise, the system will also detect potential water leaks in the irrigation system and allow for their repair. The project, valued at €39,309.80, has been awarded to MP Irrigation S.L.

The new infrastructure can be expanded in the future, facilitating the extension of the smart irrigation network to other areas of the municipality.

In addition to smart irrigation, the City Council plans to implement a smart lighting system soon, as well as monitor environmental parameters (municipal pollution levels, air quality, and UVA rays). These three initiatives will be integrated into the City Council's Smart City platform. All of these projects—irrigation, lighting, environmental monitoring, and their integration into the Smart City platform—are also part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan for the Destination within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (RTRP) funded by the European Union's Next Generation EU program.

These are projects that will allow Calp to advance in its commitment to becoming a Smart Tourist Destination and will contribute to the City Council being able to carry out a more sustainable and efficient management of the municipality.
