The Voramar Calalga trail in Calp has won the Blue Trail award for the fifth consecutive year, granted by the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer Protection (ADEAC). This distinction recognizes the restoration and enhancement of trails and routes throughout Spain, transforming them into resources for environmental interpretation and enjoying nature.
The Voramar trail runs along cliffs parallel to the sea between the upper part of Calalga cove and the Les Bassetes marina, offering spectacular views of the Calp coastline. It is a valuable resource in terms of landscape, environment, and tourism for residents and visitors alike, providing a route that combines interpreting the natural environment with actively enjoying the Calp coastline.
To obtain this distinction, criteria such as the trail's layout and type, infrastructure and signage, aspects related to the trail's environmental characterization, and its enhancement through environmental education activities are evaluated each year. In addition, aspects related to public use and enjoyment, accessibility, user information about natural and cultural heritage, and citizen participation are taken into account.
The jury, composed of researchers, university professors, and professionals specializing in the environment, health, tourism, accessibility, and physical activity, particularly highlighted the ongoing efforts of numerous administrations and promoting entities to improve the quality of the award-winning trails, which this year number 194 trails, 45 of them new, bringing the network to over 1,200 kilometers. The Blue Trails are present in 154 municipalities across 24 provinces, 12 Autonomous Communities, and 1 Autonomous City. The Valencian Community, with 31 Blue Trails, ranks third, after Galicia and Murcia, in the number of Blue Trails.
Joining the network implies a commitment to the continuous improvement of the routes, promoting environmental education activities, heritage interpretation, conservation efforts, and volunteer work, aimed at both visitors and the local population.
The presentation of the Blue Trail Flags 2026 will take place on Friday, March 6, at Cullera Castle.
